Avalanche open season with win

MONROE - The Avalanche Bantam team started their season off right by defeating Sun Prairie B 5-2 on Saturday.

The Avalanche controlled the game right from the start but was unable to get on the scoreboard until the end of the second period when Cade Janecke scored on a pass by Joe Wyss.

A few minutes into the third period, Charlie Harris scored a rebound goal on a shot by Travis Edmunds. Edmunds later scored a goal of his own assisted by Colton O'Connor and Jared Cline. A few minutes later, Sun Prairie responded with a goal to make the score 3-1. Edmunds added an unassisted goal, but Sun Prairie again responded with another goal to make the score 4 -2. With under a minute left, Sun Prairie pulled its goalie to add another attacker but Wyss got control of the puck and scored an empty-net goal to seal the win.

The Avalanche out-shot Sun Prairie 46-19, and goalie Jayden Johnson had 17 saves.



U14 Girls

On Saturday, the Avalanche U14 girls team hosted the Jr. Fury U14 in its home opener and tied 4-4.

After a scoreless first period the Fury finally lit the lamp with less than four minutes left in the second period. The Avalanche quickly responded with a tying goal scored by Alyssa Knauf on assists by Cammi Ganshert and Tessa Janecke. The Fury closed the second period with a goal to bring the score to 2-1.

Action was all over the ice allowing Tessa Janecke to score a goal on assists by Brooke Teubert and Haley Knauf to drop in a goal for the Avalanche early in the third period to tie up the game 3-3. The Fury bounced back with one of their own only to be answered with a hat-trick goal by Janecke on assists by Alyssa Knauf and Anika Einbeck, to end the game tied 4-4.

Avalanche goalie Allison Esch recorded her first net time of the season with 19 saves. The Avalanche had 48 shots on goal in the game.



Squirt A

The Squirt A team traveled to Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton and beat the Middleton Wings 13-0 Saturday.

In a dominating performance, the Avalanche quickly got on the scoreboard with a goal from Wyatt Janecke on an assist by Gavin Roth. Three seconds later, Seth Brandt added an unassisted goal. Brandt delivered three more goals.

Blaze Janecke added four goals. Anna Malone lit the lamp two times. Lilah Bauer scored two goals. Assists were made by Gavin Roth (three), Brandt (one), Karlee Boll (two) and Bauer (one). First time Squirt goalie Jack Leverton earned his first shutout and recorded seven saves. Monroe Squirt A will host Beloit Saturday at SLICE.
