STOUGHTON - The Monroe Avalanche boys hockey co-op is still searching for its first win after dropping a conference game to Stoughton 10-1 on Thursday.
"Stoughton was a very fast and aggressive team and they got two quick goals at the start, but once we got up to speed we played very well the rest of the first period," Monroe coach Josh Smith said. 'Even in the second period we played well with one of their three goals coming on a power-play. Stoughton just had better stamina and was able to keep up the pressure better as we got more and more tired and started to wander out of position."
Junior Tyler Johnson scored the lone goal for the Avalanche on an assist from Colby Smith at the 9-minute, 14-second mark in the second period. Johnson's goal cut the Vikings' lead to 3-1.
The Vikings put the game away with five goals in the thir. Stoughton's Zach Kirby and Justin Gibbons each scored two goals.
Monroe goalie Dan Guilliams had 32 saves.
Monroe drops to 0-9, 0-4 Badger South.
