ARGYLE - The Argyle softball team didn't collect its second hit Friday until the fourth inning.
After that, it seemed like they never stopped coming.
The bottom of the Orioles' batting order accounted for the first four of six consecutive hits en route to a 10-run inning and a 16-0 victory against Darlington that ended after five innings due to the mercy rule.
"Everybody has been looking good at the plate and the bottom of the order has been hitting the ball really well," Argyle coach Dan Treuthardt said. "I messed with (the bottom of the order) a little bit, but I'm leaving it the way it is because they've just been rock solid."
After a fly out and two hit batsmen, junior Kim Pink laced an RBI single to center to start the big inning. The Orioles (3-3) sent 14 batters to the plate in the fourth, with freshman Jenna Langmeier and senior Danielle Treuthardt ripping two-run triples and senior Katie Dammen, junior Rachel Tollakson and sophomore Alysha Monohan all adding RBI singles.
Pink added a second hit in the inning and finished 2-for-3.
"It's nice that it's not just the top of the order hitting," said Danielle Treuthardt, who also had a third-inning double for the Orioles' first hit and finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. "We have hitters spread throughout the order, and that helps keep the runners moving."
Langmeier also finished with three RBIs and Dammen with two.
Dan Treuthardt was glad to see the big victory following losses earlier in the week to Southwestern and Belmont, the No. 6-ranked Division 4 team by Wisssports.net. He said the Orioles played a strong Belmont team tough for much of Thursday's game before losing 14-7.
"That's a great (Belmont) team we played and we had (the score) at 10-7," the coach said. "I think if Jessica (Treuthardt) hit her spots a little better, we could have played with them. I think by the end of the year, the way the kids are working and growing, that we will be able to play with teams like Belmont. I don't see that as out of reach for us."
Jessica Treuthardt had no trouble hitting her spots Friday, when the sophomore allowed four hits while walking one and striking out four batters.
The Orioles' next big test comes Tuesday, when defending Six Rivers East champion Juda-Albany pays a visit. Argyle dropped a 1-0, nine-inning decision to the Panthers in the teams' second meeting in 2011, when Jessica Treuthardt had 13 strikeouts.
"Our goal is (to beat) Juda," Danielle Treuthardt said. "We're focused and we're working hard."
Junior Jackie Johnson had two singles to lead Darlington (0-5), which didn't advance a runner past second base.
"There were a lot of mental breakdowns that led to errors and when we get down (emotionally), we seem to stay down," first-year Darlington coach Destiny Glasson said. "We need to keep more calm and confident and we need to work on the fundamentals and grow from that."
