Argyle tops Albany; Pec falls

ALBANY - The Orioles took advantage of a walk and an error to score two runs in the third inning to beat Albany, 3-1, in Six Rivers East Conference action Thursday.

Argyle got an unearned run in the second inning, then, in the third inning, sophomore Danielle Truethardt drew a two-out walk by sophomore Katie Krupke. Kayla Ostby followed with a base hit and Jackie Dammen reached on an error, loading the bases. Junior Kelsey Bartels drove in Truethardt with a base hit and Ostby scored on a high relay throw to the plate.

Bartels scattered five hits, walked three and struck out five to earn the win. Krupke took the loss despite giving up just one earned run. She walked two and struck out eight.

Albany (1-7, 1-5 Six Rivers East) will host Black Hawk Monday. Argyle (6-2, 5-1 Six Rivers East) will travel to Barneveld Monday.

Barneveld 12, Pecatonica 2

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Vikings out-hit the Eagles 11-9, but five errors led to seven unearned runs as Barneveld rolled past Pecatonica in six innings in Six Rivers East Conference play Thursday.

Barneveld led 2-0 after three innings, then blew the game open with 10 runs over the final three innings. Senior Kaci Cassidy gave up five earned runs, walked six and struck out four while going 2-for-2 at the plate. Sophomores Allison Swenson and Michala Boese each went 2-for-3 for the Vikings.

Pecatonica (1-6, 1-4 Six Rivers East) will play in the Poynette Tournament Saturday.
