Argyle topples Verona

ARGYLE - Justin Crotty powered Argyle to a 3-1 win over Verona Friday, June 28 in a Home Talent game.

Crotty pitched seven innings of shutout ball and the Beavers handed Verona, the Home Talent league champions the last three years their first loss. Verona (9-1) and Blanchardville (7-1) are still one game ahead of Argyle 8-2). Crotty struck out 10 and gave up just five hits.

"They are always the team to beat in our league and section," Argyle player-manager Travis Erickson said. "We just have to keep on doing the things to win. We have to do our best to try to keep pace with them."

Erickson had an RBI double in the sixth inning and Lee Bohlman had an RBI single. Bohlman went 2-for-4 to lead the Beavers. Crotty delivered an RBI double. Argyle's Jarret Bauman pitched two innings and gave up just one run.

PLATTEVILLE 17, WIOTA 16

WIOTA - Wiota looked to be in prime position to roll to another win after jumping out to a 14-1 lead over Platteville in a Home Talent Night League game Thursday.

Platteville stunned the Indians with a five-run third, four-run fourth and seven-run fifth to cap an improbable comeback.

Wiota (4-2) committed four errors and Platteville had five errors.

"Both teams had a lot of errors," Wiota manager Dick Schliem said. "It came down to three mental mistakes that gave up a couple of runs."

Wiota's Rooney Janecke went 2-for-2 and Taylor Wiegel was 2-for-3. Wiota's Jake Meier went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Three pitchers for Wiota combined walked nine and hit three batters. Wiegel pitched two innings and gave up six runs on five hits. He struck out one and walked two. Janecke gave up four runs on two hits. he struck out one and walked two. Alex Abraham gave up seven runs (six earned) on three hits.
