ALBANY - Eric Ebensperger has coached volleyball teams at the highest level at the state tournament. He's trying to build a consistent winning program at Albany.

The rebuilding ran into a snag as Argyle junior Jena Saalsaa had 14 kills to power the Orioles to a 25-18, 25-13, 25-19 win over the Comets Tuesday. Albany was coming off its first match win of the season, knocking off New Glarus in the Brodhead Invitational Saturday.

"It was our first match win in three to five years," Ebensperger said of the win over the Glarner Knights. "Argyle is a great team. They have really good outside hitters. I think we had some solid plays. We have improved. They just have more power than we can deal with."

With the loss, Albany drops to 1-13, and 0-4 in the Six Rivers East.

"When I started coaching here last year they didn't know what a volleyball offense looked like," said Ebensperger, who is the former volleyball coach at Brodhead. "They know how to set up now. I just don't think we know how to win. We have to learn to win. We just have to learn when to turn it on to the next level."

Argyle senior Ashley Bruehlman had 13 kills and added 11 digs. Junior Kirsten Ostby racked up 27 assists and three aces. Senior Morgan Nelson notched five aces and senior Dorissa Denure posted two blocks.

"Their hitters were tough and they were pounding the ball down on us," Ebensperger said.

Albany junior Libby Beck had a team-high four kills and four aces. Junior teammate Sydney Bloedel dished out 13 assists and junior Paytin Zurfluh added a team-best seven digs.
