Argyle slides by Monroe

MONROE - Argyle scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning and came back to beat Monroe Optimists No. 1 4-3 on Sunday night.

Samantha Solberg, Corey Wells, Becca Armstrong and Samantha Hose combined to strike out 10 Argyle hitters.

Heather Barta had two hits for Monroe. The loss dropped Monroe (7-3) into a first place tie with Argyle and Orfordville to finish the summer league season.

The Monroe Challengers received a 7-0 forfeit win over Pecatonica. The win allowed the Challengers to tie Warren for the White League Championship. Monroe Optimists No. 2 dropped an 8-3 decision to Argyle to finish their summer league season 4-5.

U-14 Challengers wins first championship

MONROE - The Monroe Challengers U-14 girls fastpitch softball team won its first championship tournament at the Middleton Summer Bash. Pitcher Natalie Dillon went 3-o.

Monroe pounded out 11 hits in the championship game as they beat Middleton 11-1. Monroe outscored its opponents 28-10 in the tournament.

Monroe also had a strong showing in the Stoughton Fall festival placing second and going 4-2. The Challengers lost to La Crosse BGC 10-2 in the championship.
