Argyle remains unbeaten

ARGYLE - The Argyle volleyball team remained unbeaten by posting a four-set win over Black Hawk on Thursday.

Argyle (5-0, 3-0 Six Rivers East) tipped Black Hawk

25-14, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22.

"It was a big test," Argyle coach Jen Butler said. "They (Argyle) played with a lot of heart. Both teams were working very hard. I think our defense was the key. They kept their feet moving. They didn't give up."

Argyle junior Morgan Godfrey had a team-high seven kills, and junior Kayla Butler-Paulson put up 22 assists. Sophomore teammate Morgan Nelson had 21 digs, and sophomore Ashley Bruehlman posted two blocks and four aces. Senior outside hitter Katie Larson added four aces.



Pecatonica 3, Monticello 1

BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica volleyball coach Tori Leonard entered the

season with the Vikings hoping to make a statement and expecting to play a lot of long, challenging matches.

Pecatonica (6-3, 2-2 Six Rivers East) pulled out the latest nail-biter over Monticello, outlasting the Ponies 24-26, 25-14, 25-23, 25-18.

"We have anticipated a lot of four- and five- set matches," Leonard said. "We seem to be the team that likes to come from behind. It's good to see them compete, knowing that we can play anyone tough and come from behind."

Pecatonica junior Liz Tisch had a team-high nine kills and racked up 21 assists. Sam Mabin notched 10 digs and senior Britt Miller had three blocks. Seniors Clara Moen and Kailee Schraepfer each added four aces.

Monticello junior Megan Lehr had a team-best eight kills and five aces. Junior teammate Bri Graber had six kills and three blocks. Junior Jessie Garrison dished out 25 assists, and Chandler Hansen added five aces.

Pecatonica has six days off before its next match.

"We will be fine-tuning our serve receive and defensive skills," Leonard said.



Juda 3, Albany 0

ALBANY - With junior outside hitter Sara Jordan sitting out the match due to back spasms, the Panthers still rolled to a sweep of Albany.

Juda junior Alexis Goecks was moved to outside hitter with Jordan sidelined, and she had six kills to help the Panthers score a 25-10, 25-22, 25-22 win over the Comets. With the win, Juda improves to 5-1, 3-0 Six Rivers East.

I think she (Jordan) could have gone," Juda coach Scott Anderson said. "We rested her. It made more sense to get her ready for the tournament Saturday and for next week."

Juda will play Barneveld and unbeaten Argyle in conference matches next week.

Juda sophomore MacKenzie Byrne had six assists and junior Chelsea Burkhalter delivered 11 digs. Senior teammate Robyn Wahl had a team-best four blocks.



Brodhead 3,

Clinton 0

BRODHEAD - Seniors Kylie Moe and Amber Pickel each had 12 kills to power Brodhead to a sweep of Clinton.

Brodhead cruised past the Cougars 25-13, 25-8, 25-15. Brodhead's Abbey Johnson had a team-high 27 assists. Blake Boegli racked up 19 digs, and sophomore Erin Nyhus had 14 digs. Moe also added 11 digs and one block.
