Argyle puts a scare into No. 5-ranked Barneveld

ARGYLE - The Barneveld girls basketball team escaped with a 45-39 victory against Argyle Tuesday night.

"We battled really hard," Argyle coach Kurt Ritschard said. "I'm very pleased with our effort. We just struggled in the fourth quarter offensively. Barneveld made their free throws in the end to ice it."

Argyle (4-11, 2-5 Six Rivers East) took a 9-8 lead in the first quarter and trailed the state's No. 5-ranked Division 5 team by just three points at halftime. The Golden Eagles outscored the Orioles 13-4 in the third quarter.

Senior Cortney Gilbertson scored 10 points to pace the Orioles. Barneveld's Madison Laube scored 13 points and Hailey Cannoy had 10.

New Glarus 50, Waterloo 25

NEW GLARUS - Senior Alycia Atwell and junior Anya Schween each scored 14 points and the Glarner Knights' defense tied a season-best by allowing just 25 points in a Capitol South Conference win.

New Glarus (7-6, 3-1 Capitol South) held a 24-13 halftime lead and increased it to 35-18 after three quarters.

Juda 46, Albany 17

ALBANY - Juda raced to a 24-3 halftime lead and rolled in Six Rivers East play.

Senior Ellen Kiser led all scorers with 21 points and the Panthers (11-4, 4-2 Six Rivers East) got six points from senior Katlyn DeVoe and junior Jessica Rackow.

Junior Cassidy Bump paced Albany (2-12, 0-7) with six points and sophomore Felicia Conley had five.

Brodhead 68, Jefferson 37

BRODHEAD - The Cardinals held the Eagles to just two points in the third quarter in rolling to the Rock Valley Conference crossover triumph.

Nine different players scored for Brodhead (13-2, 8-1 Rock Valley South), led by sophomore Carly Mohns with 14 points and junior Taylor Douglas with 11.
