Argyle outduels rival Barneveld

ARGYLE - Junior Ashley Bruehlman had a monster match powering down 27 kills and posting 14 digs to help the Argyle volleyball team roll to a four-set win over Six Rivers East Conference rival Barneveld on Tuesday.

Barneveld clipped the Orioles in the first set 25-22. It didn't take Argyle (3-1, 2-0 Six Rivers East) long to respond. The Orioles knocked off the Golden Eagles 25-19 in the second set and pulled out a nail-biting third set 25-22. Argyle then took control to beat the Eagles in the final set 25-18 to seal the victory.

"We knew it would be a tough game," Argyle coach Jen Butler said. "They are always tough competition. We started out slow. We dug ourselves a hole in some games, but they dug back and battled back. They never gave up even when we were down."

Argyle senior Kayla Butler-Paulson racked up 42 assists and had a team-high six aces. Sophomore teammate Jena Saalsaa had seven kills and four aces. Sophomore Jadyn Saalsaa had a team-best 18 digs and junior Morgan Godfrey added seven kills.



Monticello 3, Pecatonica 1

BLANCHARDVILLE - Monticello sophomore Hannah Zanow delivered a match-high 13 kills to lead the Ponies to a four set win over Pecatonica on Tuesday.

Monticello knocked off Pecatonica 25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17. The Vikings stormed back in the first set before the Ponies pulled out the win.

"We just had a lot of serve receive errors," Pecatonica coach Jennah Schliem said. "We just had too many errors in the first set."

Monticello senior Jessie Garrison had 23 assists and the Ponies had 17 aces as a team. With the win, Monticello improves to 2-1, 2-0 Six Rivers East.

After two close sets, the Ponies pulled away to win both the third and final sets.

"I just think we ran out of gas," Schliem said.

Pecatonica senior Liz Tisch had a team-high nine aces. Junior teammate Taetum Pagel added 11 assists and the Vikings (1-2 Six Rivers East) had 13 aces as a team.



Juda 3, Albany 0

ALBANY - The Juda volleyball team swept Albany in three sets Tuesday.

Juda junior Maddie Roth had a team-high 11 kills to lead the Panthers to a 25-10, 25-14, 25-19 win over the Comets. With the win, Juda improves to 3-3, 1-2.

Juda senior Chelsea Burkhalter posted 14 assists. Senior teammate Alexis Goecks racked up 18 digs and junior Erika Duecker notched four aces.

The Comets were led by sophomore Libby Beck who had a team-best eight kills. Albany senior Taylor Seffrood had eight assists and junior Hailey Stefanik had eight digs.
