ARGYLE - Riley Ostby took advantage of his coach's adjustment and the Argyle sophomore turned into a playmaker breaking the press.

Ostby scored a team-high 24 points and was instrumental in helping the Orioles break the press en route to a 51-42 win over Potosi Monday, Dec. 23.

"We wanted to put him (Ostby) in a better position to attack and make more plays," Argyle coach Scott Noll said. "It allowed him more freedom."

Argyle (3-2, 0-2 Six Rivers East) snapped a two-game losing streak with the win. After losses to conference title contenders Black Hawk and Albany, Noll wanted to see his team respond.

"The boys had a really hard week of practice," Noll said. "We knew it was going to be a tough game. Potosi is a scrappy team. Wins like this you can't put a price on the confidence you will gain."

The Orioles outscored the Chieftains 19-8 in the second quarter to take a 12 point lead at the half.

"In the second quarter, we did a good job of getting the 50-50 balls and we ran our press break really well," Noll said. "It was the tale of two halves. The first half was really well and in the second half we didn't get the 50-50 balls and they out-rebounded us. I was proud that we were able to withstand that and hold onto the lead."

Argyle senior Christopher Severson scored five points, but added a team-high eight rebounds. Senior Alec Treuthardt had seven rebounds.

Argyle sophomore Kyle Emberson scored 15 points, made four 3-pointers and added six rebounds. Emberson was 5 of 11 shooting and the Orioles hit six 3-pointers as a team.

Argyle will play at New Glarus Friday, Dec. 27. Noll served as an assistant coach in New Glarus before taking over as the head coach in Argyle this season.

"It's kind of a homecoming for me," Noll said. "The key for us will be stopping their dribble drive and closing out on their three-point shooters."
