Argyle edges Hillmen

ARGYLE - The Argyle softball team took advantage of some Platteville errors and got a big hit from Sam Mick to come back to knock off Platteville 5-4 in a non-conference game Monday.

Platteville jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two runs off Argyle junior Katie Larson in the first inning. Argyle (6-8, 3-4 Six Rivers East) battled back with two runs in the second. Argyle senior Hannah Saalsaa singled to right field. Kari Fischer and Mick both walked. Saalsaa scored on a passed ball and the second run scored when Katrina Carter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game at 2.

The Hillmen led 4-2 going into the fifth. The Orioles rallied with a three-run fifth to win it. Argyle senior Jenna Langmeier doubled and Brianne Connors singled to left. Langmeier stole third and scored on a wild throw. Saalsaa walked and stole second. A wild throw allowed Connors to score to tie the game at 4. Mick delivered a game-winning RBI double for the Orioles.

"It really was a big win for us," Argyle coach Heidi Ganshert said. "We need to start to build confidence going into the tournament."

Carter and Mick were both 1-for-2.

Argyle sophomore Kayla Butler-Paulson pitched four shutout innings in relief to get the win. She gave up just one hit, while striking out four and walking two. Larson pitched three innings and gave up four runs on three hits. She walked eight.

Argyle will play at Juda-Albany today.

"Going into Juda is always a tough game," Ganshert said.



Juda-Albany 12, Cassville-River Ridge 2

JUDA - The Juda-Albany softball team took advantage of some wildness by Cassville-River Ridge to cash in with a 12-2 six-inning win Monday.

Cassville-River Ridge walked 14 batters and the Panthers broke the game open with a a three-run fifth inning to take a 7-1 lead.

"We took advantage of a lot of walks," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said.

With the win, Juda-Albany (17-2, 12-0 Six Rivers East) clinched at least a share of the conference championship. The Panthers can win the conference outright with one more win.

"It puts us one step closer to our goal," Davis said of winning the Six Rivers East outright.

Juda-Albany sophomore Alexis Goecks went 2-for-4. Senior teammate Cheyenne Ambler hit a solo home run in the second. Goecks and Hailey Kammerer each hit doubles.

Juda-Albany freshman Nicki Becker pitched a complete game to get the win. Becker gave up two earned runs on five hits. She struck out four and walked two.



Brodhead 4, Parkview 3

BRODHEAD - For the second time in three days, Brodhead rallied and pulled out a win. The Cardinals scored three runs in the sixth inning to put the finishing touches on a comeback 4-3 win over Orfordville Parkview Monday.

Brodhead senior Payton Wright went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Brodhead's Erin Kloepping and Cassie McGuire were each 2-for-4.

Brodhead senior Brooke Boegli pitched a complete game and gave up two earned runs on five hits. She struck out five and walked three.
