ARGYLE - Senior Sarah Flannery went 2-for-3 with one RBI to propel the Argyle High School softball team to a 2-1 win over Barneveld on Monday.
"It was kind of a pitchers' duel," Argyle coach Heidi Ganshert said.
Argyle (7-10, 4-5 Six Rivers East) scored both of its runs in the fourth inning. Argyle junior Sam Mick led off with a double. Junior teammate Brianne Connors delivered another double to knock in Mick to for the Orioles' first run. Flannery then had a clutch RBI single to right field to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead.
Argyle junior Kayla Butler-Paulson pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up one earned run on five hits. Butler-Paulson went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.
"We have struggled quite a bit this year," Ganshert said. "This win was big. I'm just hoping (our confidence) goes up from here."
Pecatonica 9, Monticello 7
BLANCHARDVILLE - Senior Kelsey Chrostowski went 3-for-4 with one RBI to lift the Vikings over Monticello.
Pecatonica (1-13, 1-9 Six Rivers East) scored three runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead. The Vikings stretched their advantage to 7-2 with a four-run fourth.
Monticello wouldn't go quietly. The Ponies almost pulled off an improbable comeback by scoring five runs in the seventh.
Pecatonica senior Ashley Shilling had three RBI and senior Clara Moen scored three runs. Sophomore teammate Ninah McKeon had two RBI and scored two runs.
The Ponies outhit the Vikings 13-7, but Monticello had three errors and five walks. Monticello freshman Hannah Zanow went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Freshman teammate Claire Klossner finished 3-for-5 with one RBI. Junior Jessie Garrison went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and junior Chandler Hansen was 2-for-5.
Moen picked up the win for the Vikings on the mound. She pitched a complete game and gave up five earned runs on 13 hits. She struck out six and walked nine.
