Argyle baseball team drops doubleheader

POTOSI - The Argyle baseball team was in good shape late in both games of a doubleheader with Potosi on Friday, only to fall apart at the end.

Trailing by a run entering the bottom of the seventh, Potosi erupted for 13 runs to post a 21-9 victory in the opener. The Chieftains completed the sweep by scoring seven runs in the sixth inning of the nightcap for a 13-3 victory.

In the opener, Potosi got a leadoff double in the seventh and scored the tying run on an error.

"As soon as we had that error, you could see it on everyone's faces," Argyle coach Chuck Bredeson said of his team. "It was only tied and it was like we were already down a whole bunch of runs."

Potosi collected nine of its 17 hits in the inning.

Senior Kevin Flannery, sophomore Rhett Starr and freshmen Colton Ploessl and Brock Breuhlman each had two hits for Argyle. Breuhlman's were both triples.

Alec Treuthardt had two hits in the nightcap for the Orioles.

Black Hawk 9, Belmont 2

BELMONT - Black Hawk starter Aaron Monson allowed six hits and two runs - one earned - while striking out six and walking two in the opener. Cory Rupnow, Mike Powers and Tayler Rupnow each had two hits for the Warriors.

Merik Meythaler fired a complete-game seven-hitter in the nightcap as the Warriors completed the sweep. He allowed two runs (one earned) and had eight strikeouts with just one walk. Monson and Meythaler each had two hits.

Shulls.-Benton 10, Monticello 0

SHULLSBURG - Shullsburg-Benton touched Monticello's Lukas Kolasch for eight runs on six hits in the opener and scored 13 runs on 15 hits - nine earned - in four innings against Bryce Klitzke in the nightcap.

Cassville 10, Albany 3

Cassville 14, Albany 1

CASSVILLE - Cody Schultz and Tyler VanDusen each went 2-for-4 and Schultz allowed 10 earned runs on nine hits and three walks in the opener for Albany.

The second game went five innings as Cassville scored seven earned runs apiece off Albany pitchers Ty Mauerman (2 innings) and Ethan Pfeuti (3 innings).
