ALBANY - In their first appearance on a baseball field this season, the Argyle baseball team started their year off with a 4-0 win over Six Rivers East conference foe Albany.

Despite just one hit as a team, the Orioles scored four runs, three of which crossed the plate in the seventh inning.

Alec Treuthardt dominated on the mound for Argyle, racking up 13 strikeouts on his way to a complete game shutout. Mitchell Trow started on the bump for Albany and struck out eight in four innings. He was relieved by Mitchell Kauk, who pitched the final three innings. Kauk struck out seven and gave up three runs, only one of which was earned. Argyle coach Chuck Bredeson said pitching was the name of the game for both teams.

"It was a really good pitching performance for both teams. Trow threw really well," Bredeson said. "Alec threw one heck of a game. He got in a couple jams. Guys on second and third with nobody out in the third inning. He struck out their 2, 3, and 4 hitters back-to-back-to-back. He threw really well. A lot of it was him. We made him throw a few more pitches than he should have. The errors we made were routine plays."

Albany is scheduled to play again today against Monticello. Argyle is also scheduled today against Six Rivers East rival Pecatonica. Bredeson said it was nice to get the win, considering they hadn't played on a field yet, but his team still has a lot of room to improve.

"We need to hit the ball better a little bit. We struggled hitting tonight," he said. "We haven't been on the baseball field. We've been outside for flyballs and batting practice, but that was just in random spots of grass in the park. It was nice just getting live and outdoors after being indoors. The ball looks a lot different outdoors than it does indoors."
