Argue powers Orioles

HIGHLAND - After dropping the first game of a doubleheader against Belmont on Saturday, Argyle junior Collin Argue and senior Riley Ostby delivered a big performance to earn a split in the twinbill.

Argue went 4-for-4 with eight RBI and a grand slam home run in the second inning to help the Orioles rally from a four-run deficit to tie the game at 5. Ostby also finished 4-for-4 at the plate.

"I think we can feel a lot better about our hitting after that one," Argyle coach Jeff Solberg said. "We needed to get it turned around after losing that first one. I thought we came back, had fun and started to play the way we know we can."

The first game against Belmont counted as a conference game and the second game of the doubleheader was considered non-conference. With the doubleheader split, Argyle improves to 2-4, 0-2 Six Rivers East.

Argue pitched 42⁄3 innings and struck out seven. Argyle's Mitch Flannery tossed 21⁄3 innings in relief and was the winning pitcher.



Marshall 8, New Glarus 4

NEW GLARUS - Marshall's Spencer Kleindschmidt pitched a complete game shutout as the Cardinals swept a doubleheader from New Glarus on Saturday.

Marshall scored four runs in the sixth inning of the first game to break a 4-4 tie to win the game. New Glarus junior Jared Carney tossed a complete game for the Knights in a 3-0 loss to the Cardinals. Carney struck out 14 in the performance.

With the losses, New Glarus drops to 1-5.



Albany 8, River Ridge 5

Albany senior Cole Trapp hit two home runs and had eight RBI in the Comets' doubleheader sweep of River Ridge on Friday.

Trapp hit a grand slam in the first inning of Game 1 to lead the Comets to an 8-5 win over the Timberwolves. Albany senior Tyler Dahl went 2-for-2 and Tyler's freshman brother, Josh Dahl, was 2-for-3. Albany's Travis Oliver and Drew Kennedy were each 2-for-4. Trapp finished the first game 1-for-3 with five RBI. With the doubleheader sweep, Albany improved to 3-1, 2-0 Six Rivers East.

Albany junior Brock Gilkes pitched six innings to get the win. He gave up one earned run on eight hits. Gilkes struck out two.

The Comets took advantage of five walks by River Ridge in the first inning of the second game to post five runs. Trapp hit a two-run home run in the second inning to extend the Comets' lead.
