Area teams run at Darlington

DARLINGTON - The Darlington boys and girls track teams each won WIAA Division 3 regional team titles on their home track Monday.

The Darlington boys outdistanced Cuba City 142-124 for the team title and the Redbird girls ran away with the championship 154-92.5 over Southwestern. There were a slew of area athletes who qualified for Thursday's Bangor sectional with a top four regional finish.

There were four area runners who qualified for the sectional in both the 400 and 3,200-meter runs. Pecatonica-Argyle's Lucas Stoehr was the regional champion in the 400, finishing with a time of 51.84 seconds. Monticello's Reid Zanoya took second (:51.94). Black Hawk junior Hayden Schliem finished third (:53.34) and Pecatonica-Argyle's Nathan Loyd was fourth (:55.54).

In the 3,200, Darlington's Tyson Miehe took first with a time of 10:21.54. Teammate Brady McDaniel finished second, Albany's Drew Mather was third and Darlington's Connor Roche was fourth.

Pecatonica-Argyle's Wyatt Massey won the 800 (2:02.74) ahead of Whitehead, who was second. Albany's Jose Ramirez finished third.

Zanoya also qualified for the sectional with a fourth place finish in the 100 (:11.74), 200 (:24.44) and long jump (19 feet, 3 inches). Stoehr took third in the 200 (:23.34).

The Warriors had two sectional qualifiers in the triple jump. Black Hawk's Michael Wolff was the regional champion in the triple jump (39-10 1/2) and teammate Jake Meier was second (39-9 1/2). Meier added a third place finish in the long jump (20-0 1/2). Schliem won the high jump (6-0) and Darlington's Alex Erickson was second (5-10).

There were four area boys 3,200 relay teams that qualified for the sectional: Darlington, Albany, Pecatonica-Argyle and Monticello.

Massey and Darlington's Destin Komprood and Kent Miehe qualified for the sectional in the 1,600.

Albany's Josh Krueger took second in the pole vault (11-0).

In the boys discus, Pecatonica-Argyle's Nick Huffman was the regional champion (128-7). Darlington's Zach Mosley also qualified for the sectional taking third. Darlington's Kyle Mulcahy took third in the shot put (45-8).

Monticello's Brent Pence finished third in the 300 hurdles. Darlington's Kyle Johnson was fourth (:45.64) in the 300 hurdles and added a second place in the 110 hurdles.

Darlington, Pecatonica-Argyle and Black Hawk qualified for the sectional in the 800 boys' relay. The Redbirds also took the top spot in the 400 relay (:45.74), which was ahead of second place Black Hawk. Three teams that qualified for the sectional in the 1,600 relay: Darlington, Pecatonica-Argyle and Albany.

Three area girls qualified for the sectional in the pole vault. Darlington's Chelsea Fortin finished first (9-0) and teammate Sydney Schulte took second (8-9). Albany's Jessica Mauerman was fourth.

Darlington's Cassidy Chambers and Black Hawk's Jen Wellnitz each qualified for sectionals in the high jump.

Albany's Bailey Hlavachek took first in the 3,200 (12:20.94) and first in the 1,600 (5:40.74). Pecatonica-Argyle's Kendra Sigg finished second in the 1,600 and Darlington sophomore Harley Douglas was third.

Three area runners qualified for the sectional in the 800: Cheyenne Wolfe of Darlington, Sigg, and Albany's Courtney Pfeuti.

Three other area runners qualified for the sectional in the 3,200. Darlington junior Amy Jorgenson took second, Albany senior Rosy Bauman was third and Darlington sophomore Christa Wamsley was fourth.

Black Hawk's Rachel Rygh was the regional champion in the 200 (:27.54) and she was the runner-up in the 100 to teammate Jen Wellnitz (:13.04). Rygh finished the 100 with a time of 13.24 seconds.

Darlington's Alix Brandt took second in the 100 hurdles and teammate Hannah Huffman finished second in the long jump. In the shot put, Darlington's MacKenzie Pickett was second and Pecatonica-Argyle's Kacey Schoepp took fourth. Black Hawk's Olivia Holland took third in the 300 hurdles.

Albany's Hillary Best took second in the discus, Darlington's Hailey McGowan was third (104-5) and Black Hawk's Brittany Klemm was fourth. Monticello's Lanie Havens finished third in the 200 and Darlington sophomore Rebecca Mathias was fourth.

The Darlington and Black Hawk girls 400 relay teams both advanced finishing in 53.34 seconds.

Darlington won the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:16.34. The other sectional qualifiers in the 1,600 relay included Albany, Pecatonica-Argyle and Black Hawk. In the 3,200 relay, Darlington (10:28.44) took first with Albany and Black Hawk also qualifying. The Redbirds won the 800 relay with a time of 1:52.34 , Pecatonica-Argyle was second and Black Hawk was fourth.
