JUDA - The Panthers pushed across just enough runs in a softball game that could be considered a defensive duel Thursday with 3-0 win against Albany.
Freshman pitcher Amber Ramos struck out 13 hitters, walked four batters and allowed just two hits for Juda (10-8, 8-1 Six Rivers East). The Comets sent out freshman Katie Krupke to the mound, and Krupke responded by throwing a three-hitter with two walks and a pair of strikeouts.
"(Krupke) pitched really well. She throws strikes and makes you put the ball in play," Juda coach Bill Davis said.
Aly Pierce singled and scored the first run in the bottom of the third, and Juda plated two more off an error and a passed ball in the fifth.
Brodhead 7, Clinton 2
BRODHEAD - Ericka Stampfli struck out 18 hitters while allowing just a single hit as the Cardinals worked their way past Clinton.
Brodhead scored a run in each of the first three innings and added three more runs in the fourth to open a 6-0 lead. Clinton plated two runners in the sixth, but Brodhead gained one back.
Tia Collins, Courtney Mielke, Leah Hegi and Ashley Johnson each had two hits for the Cardinals.
Black Hawk 13, Argyle 3
GRATIOT - The Warriors scored seven runs in the sixth inning to end the game early against the Orioles.
Black Hawk went into the sixth ahead 6-3, but the big inning against Kelsey Bartles came as a surprise.
"I don't know if it's a must (win), but it was nice," Warriors coach Roger Jackson said. "We have been hitting strongly and tonight we came through with some big hits."
Kim Wellnitz got the win on the mound, striking out five hitters. Melissa Wellnitz was 3-for-4 at the plate and Paige Butler and Gabi Lehner each had two hits for Black Hawk.
Monticello 5, Pecatonica 3
MONTICELLO - Mary Hershberger allowed just 11 baserunners and struck out two on the hill and went 2-3 with two RBIs at the plate for the Ponies.
Ellie Gifford went 3-4 with an RBI, but the Vikings could not make up a 5-2 deficit in the final two innings.
