Another strong weekend for Mat Rats

The Monroe Mat Rats had 29 wrestlers participate in three local tournaments this past weekend in Dodgeville, Verona, and Winnebago (Ill.).

In Winnebago, McKenzy Foley took first place overall in the fifth- and sixth-grade division. Jacob Raetz took fourth place in the same division.

Dempzy Foley finished in second place in the third- and fourth-grade division with Shawn Powers coming in fourth.

In the kindergarten- through second-grade division, Luke Dubach, Max Golembiewski and Brandon Raetz each took third place while Wyatt Heimann finished fourth.

In the Dodgeville tournament, Hayden Arneson finished in first place in the third- and fourth-grade division while Jacob Quinn finished in third place in the fifth- and sixth-grade division.

In the kindergartern- through second-grade division, Nick Schumacher, Mitchell Quinn and Colby Argall each finished in first place. Aidan Sweeney came in third.

At the Verona tournament, which is said to be warm-up mee for regionals this coming weekend, wrestlers were seperated by birth years in eight-man brackets.

For those who were born between 1994-95, Trevor Gorr finished in first place, Kevin Klopfenstein took second, Reave Lincoln and Aaron Hesgard took fourth and Dusty Burkhalter finished fifth.

Troy Gorr finished first in the 1996-97 age group, with Terri Holmes coming in seventh.

Traiten Goor took first in the 1998-99 age group. Cole Murray finished fifth and Parker Ingold came in seventh.

In the 2000-01 age group, Sam Kind took first place, Drake Ingold finished in fourth, and Brandon Anderson finished in seventh.

Braedon Malkow finished second and Tristan Teasdale came in sixth in the 2002-03 division.

Regionals, which are March 14, are separated into eight regions throughout the state and wrestlers can choose which one to go to.

At regionals, wrestlers need to place either first or second in order to qualify for the Kids State Tournament held March 27-28 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
