BLANCHARDVILLE - Things haven't gotten a whole lot easier lately for Danielle Senf.

The Pecatonica girls basketball senior, who posted 31 points in a rivalry game with Barneveld less than 24 hours after a car accident, finally is getting the chance to embark on her latest task.

Senf returned to school Friday and is at last getting the chance to break ground on raising $400 in order to play in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game June 21 at the UW Fieldhouse.

She got the surprising and fantastic news about a week before undergoing knee surgery in March.

"I really hadn't thought about it because of my knee surgery, but just being nominated (by Pecatonica coach Josh Tarrell) is amazing," Senf said.

Then she got a text from Barneveld coach Jimmy Myers, who let the proverbial cat out of the bag before Tom Howard, the coach at LaFarge and the South squad's skipper for the event, got the chance to get Senf on the phone.

Being selected to the squad annoints Senf as one of the 10 finest Division 4 athletes in the southern half of Wisconsin. She's looking forward to playing alongside such stars as Barneveld's Brianna Roberts, who she had the charge of guarding when their teams faced off during a holiday tournament Dec. 26 at the Fieldhouse when Pec trounced Barneveld, 62-37.

Not accustomed to anything coming easy, Senf suffered a staph infection after her operation before discovering an allergy to her medication.

So, Friday, she finally returned to classes and now needs to move quickly in raising some cash.

But bringing in bucks for Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, better known as the MACC Fund, is one task she relishes.

"I feel very honored raising money and it's for such a good cause in the MACC Fund," Senf said. "And I get to play basketball, which I love, so it doesn't get much better."

Senf, as always, has gotten help from everyone around school and her family members also have pitched in to help her get to the magic number of $400 before her deadline April 24.

"But here in a small community, you can't go to big business, because there really aren't any," Senf said.
