NEW GLARUS - The Village of New Glarus will sponsor the fourth annual AlphornMan Sprint Triathlon on Sunday.
The event will kick off at 7:30 a.m. in the Village Park. Registration can be completed online at www.active.com/triathlon/new-glarus-wi/alphorn-man-sprint-tri-2011. Visit the event website at http://alphornman.tripod.com.
The AlphornMan is a sprint distance triathlon which includes a 1/4 mile swim in the village pool, a 15 mile bike route that meanders through the countryside, and a three mile run on the edge of the village. Last year's event drew over 200 participants. The race begins at 7:30 a.m., to the sounds of the alphorns in the village park.
There is a post-race pavilion with local food and New Glarus beer. The race registration fee also includes admission to the Volksfest (Swiss Independence Day) at Tell Shooting Park, located three blocks from the village park.
This event began as a fundraiser for the new poolhouse at the New Glarus pool. All proceeds from the race are used for that venture and youth park and recreation programs.
