All tied up: Cheesemakers can't find finishing touch

MAZOMANIE - The process is nearly flawless for Monroe soccer. The only missing component, unfortunately, is the most vital one of all.

The Lady Cheesemakers put together innumerable scoring chances during Saturday's 0-0 non-conference tie at Wisconsin Heights but simply couldn't come up with the finishing touch.

Monroe took 19 shots.

"It was a little bit frustrating for the girls to dominate the game but not finish," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said.

Monroe's keeper, Niamh O'Neill-Culhane, stopped the two shots she faced, both coming in the first half while the Vanguards had the wind at their backs.

Erin Solawetz set up her squad for several tries as she had five aggressive and accurate corner kicks for Monroe. Catie Eiserman, Abby Schneider and Kylie Ritschard all put multiple shots apiece on target but to no avail.

"We really played a fine possession game," O'Neill said.

The Cheesemakers return to conference play Monday when Madison Edgewood visits.
