MONTICELLO - It didn't count in the conference standings, but Albany senior Sydney Bump wanted to beat Black Hawk to take home the championship in the Six Rivers volleyball tournament Saturday.
The Comets went 4-0 and won the gold division in the Six Rivers tournament by defeating River Ridge 25-23, 25-18 and knocking off Black Hawk 25-18, 25-21. Black Hawk finished 1-2-1 and also lost to River Ridge before the match with the Comets. The Warriors have won 36 straight conference matches. That streak will be put to the test when Albany plays at Black Hawk to open Six Rivers East play Tuesday night.
"I'm very happy with what we did," Albany coach Connie Wunschel said. "Confident might not be the right word. We have to do a better job when we have the ball and not expect other teams to make a mistake. Black Hawk will not make the mistakes when we play them again."
Albany senior Sydney Bump had 34 total kills in the tournament. She had 12 digs and nine kills against Black Hawk.
"She wanted that one," Wunschel said. Fellow senior Courtney Pfeuti racked up 59 assists in Albany's final three matches.
In other pool play, Albany defeated Dodgeville 25-7, 25-16 and Benton 25-16, 25-19. Albany senior Hillary Best had four kills and six digs against Dodgeville. Albany senior Kaitlyn Schulz had six kills and two blocks against Benton and she had two blocks against Black Hawk.
"She (Schulz) was a monster at the net all day," Wunschel said.

In the silver round, Darlington beat the Ponies 25-22, 25-7. The Ponies rebounded by defeating Dodgeville 25-16, 25-20.
"I think it's a good starting point," Monticello coach Teresa Eliason said. "We served and passed well. We just have to get over that hump of putting the ball in play."
Argyle finished 2-1-1 and won the bronze division. The Orioles split two sets with Black Hawk in pool play. The Orioles dropped the first set to the Warriors 14-25, but rebounded to win the second 25-18.
