Albany ties for WBY championship

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN - The Albany boys varsity summer basketball team tied for first place in the Mark Miller WBY tournament Saturday, June 29 in Prairie du Chien.

The Comets played two games Saturday, June 29 and two games Sunday, June 30. The Albany team, who was coached by Jeff Shell, and consisted of: Isaiah Shell, Mitchell Kauk, Grant Schoenenberger, Ethan Pfeuti, Tyler Dahl, Devin Deegan, Clinton Sullivan, Joey McNaught and Mitchell Trow.

The Comets completed Saturday with a 2-0 record with wins over Belmont and Fennimore.

On Sunday, June 30, the Comets pulled off a win upsetting Cuba City, 45-38. Shell scored 25 points against the Cubans and made 12 of 14 free throws.

On Sunday, the Comets were delivered their only loss of the tournament at the hands of Cassville. Later in the day on Sunday, Cuba City defeated Cassville which led to a tie for first place between Albany, Cassville and Cuba City. Each team finished the tournament 3-1.

Two Albany Comet men were placed on the all-tournament team - Kauk and Isaiah Shell. Shell was also named the MVP of the tournament and was key in the win against the Cubans.
