Albany takes third at conference

PLATTEVILLE - Black Hawk junior Jen Wellnitz won four individual events at the Six Rivers Conference track meet Monday, May 13.

Wellnitz won the 100-meter dash (12.79), 200 (26.68), long jump (16 feet, 8 inches) and triple jump (35-6 1/2). Both the Albany girls and boys track teams finished third as a team. Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg won conference titles for both girls and boys. The Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg girls edged River Ridge 145.75-134.5. Albany (91) took third, Black Hawk finished fourth (85) and Pecatonica-Argyle took sixth (61) followed by Monticello and Cassville tied for seventh (46).

In the boys' conference meet, Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg outdistanced River Ridge 153-122.5 for the title. Albany finished third (121.5) and Monticello was fourth (94). Black Hawk took seventh (43) and Pecatonica-Argyle was eighth (28).

Albany junior Bailey Hlavachek won three individual events including the 800 (2 minutes, 25.93 seconds), 1,600 (5;43.96) and 3,200 (13:04.88). The Comets took the top two spots in the 3,200 with freshman Sydnee Woyak taking second (13:20.22). Woyak finished second in the pole vault (6-6). Junior teammate Chantel Rogers won the high jump (4-10) and took second in the 400 (1:01.66).

Black Hawk junior Olivia Holland finished first in the 300 hurdles (49.29) and the Warriors added a second-place finish in the 400 relay (55.45).

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Cassidy Steiner took second place in the shot put (31-9 1/2). Pecatonica-Argyle's 3,200 relay team of freshman Samantha Erickson, junior Lizzy Ritschard, freshman Clare Keast and senior Emma Marion took first with a time of 10:38.86, which was just ahead of second place Black Hawk (10:56.38). The Vikings added second place in the 1,600 relay (4:24.25).

In the boys' conference meet, Albany senior Jose Ramirez finished first in the 400 (52.37) and 800 (2:10.48). Monticello sophomore John Zuber finished first in the 1,600 (4:45.82) just ahead of Albany sophomore Aaron Johnson (4:46.81). Albany sophomore Brennan Bloedel won the 3,200 (10:23.84) ahead of Monticello senior Brock Westby-Hess (10:57.94).

Monticello won three of the four relays. The Ponies' 400 relay team of junior Josh Kolasch, junior Forrest Havens, senior Hans Marty and senior Jesse Halvorsen won with a time of 48.9 seconds. Halvorsen and Havens teamed with freshman Andy Yaun and junior Hunter Pratt to win the 1,600 relay (3:43.18). In the 3,200 relay, Westby-Hess, Dylan Beckwith, Pratt and Zuber won with a time of 8:52.95.

Pecatonica-Argyle senior Nathan Loyd took second in the 800 (2;11.23) and third in the 400 (53.61). Black Hawk junior Seth Butler took second in the high jump (5-6) and junior teammate Jayden Rufenacht took third in the 200 (24.51). Albany's Grant Schoenenberger finished third in the discus (108-10).
