MADISON - The Albany boys basketball team picked up their first win of the season Tuesday night, knocking off Madison Abundant Life, 81-39.

"It was kind of an ugly basketball game, to be honest," said Albany coach Derik Doescher. "Madison Abundant Life's pretty young. We did some nice things. We put some points on the board. I thought we played better tonight than we did our first two games. It was a good first win of the year."

Isaiah Shell led the way for the Comets, scoring 30 points.

The blowout win gave a number of players the opportunity to contribute .

"We suit up eight, and seven of the eight scored. The one kid who didn't score played in all four quarters. A lot of guys got playing time, some that normally wouldn't," Doescher said.

Doescher also singled out the play of Tyler Dahl.

"Dahl had 13 points as a freshman point guard. It was his first game in double digits."

Doescher was glad to get the first win out of the way, but knows his team still needs to see improvement.

"It was nice to get that first win under the belt," he said. "Our effort was better tonight, but we still have a lot of improvement to do."

Argyle 37, Shullsburg 45

SHULLSBURG - The Argyle boys basketball team lost to Shullsburg Tuesday night, 45-37.

Argyle was led in scoring by junior Christopher Severson, who scored 15 points. Freshman Riley Ostby added 10 for the Orioles.

Shullsburg's Pierce Russell led all scorers with 19.

The difference in the game was the discrepancy in 3-point shooting. Shullsburg knocked down seven 3-pointers, while Argyle only had two.

The loss drops Argyle's record to 0-2.

Juda 56, Durand 51

JUDA - A trio of Juda seniors combined to score 48 points and lead the Panthers to a 56-51 victory over Durand.

Matt Trotter led with 23 points, and Cody Suiter and Kade Allen chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively.

"Trotter shot it pretty well. He did a lot of damage in the first half," said Juda coach Mike Armitage. "In the second half the other guys stepped up more. It was pretty balanced between those three."

Juda lost their first two games of the season, but Armitage likes the improvement that he is seeing from his squad.

"I think defensively we've made some improvement from the first two games. We need to continue that growth. We're not where we want to be, but we're headed in the right direction."

Monticello 60, Belmont 27

MONTICELLO - The Monticello boys basketball team continued its hot start to the season by defeating Belmont, 60-27.

The Ponies were in control from the start. They started the game with an 11-0 run, and led 31-8 at the half.

"We finished the opportunities we got. We played good team defense and forced them into some tougher shots," Monticello coach Mark Olson said.

Senior Bryce Klitzke scored 19 points to lead the Ponies.

"Bryce did a really nice job on the defensive end. He has a nose for getting to the basket," Olson said.

Other top performers for the Ponies included sophomore Ben May, who scored 15, and junior Lucas Marty, who added 14 points

Olson said that he likes what he has seen so far from his team on the offensive end.

"The guys are very comfortable on the offensive end. They like to push the ball. They're good at moving the ball and finding the open guy. They play well together when they play at a faster speed."

With the win, the Ponies improved their record to 3-0.

Monticello travels to Highland this Saturday.

Darlington 65, Barneveld 62
