ALBANY - Albany boys basketball coach Derik Doescher has said that before the season is over, Pecatonica will have a say in which team wins the Six Rivers East Conference championship.

Pecatonica's first opportunity came Friday as Albany was able to hang on for a 63-57 win over the Vikings. Albany led just 39-37 at the end of the third quarter.

Pecatonica junior Drew Schliem scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half and A.J. Hendrickson scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half.

"I still believe they (Pecatonica) will have a say of who wins the conference," Doescher said. "They (Schliem and Hendrickson) are a tough combo to defend. They are a very athletic and a good team."

Albany (8-4, 4-1 Six Rivers East) outscored the Vikings 24-20 in the fourth quarter to seal the win and remain tied with Black Hawk atop the conference. Pecatonica (5-6, 3-2) along with Monticello and Barneveld are one game behind Black Hawk and Albany.

"It was a heck of a game," Doescher said. "It had to be a fun game to watch as a spectator."

Albany senior Isaiah Shell scored a team-high 17 points. The Comets had great balance with four players in double figures. Albany senior Grant Schoenenberger scored 16 points, senior Mitchell Kauk added 11 points and junior Mitchell Trow chipped in 10.

"The biggest thing for us is we tend to win the games where Isaiah scores about 20 points because we get everyone involved," Doescher said."

Shell was coming off a 28 point game against Black Hawk and a 34 point outburst against Beloit Turner, which were both losses for the Comets.
