NEW GLARUS - Senior Kaitlyn Schulz went 3 for 4 with a double and a triple and two RBI's while Katie Krupke limited the Glarner Knights to just one hit, as the Comets opened their season with a 14-0 win over New Glarus Thursday.
Sophomore Carly Peters drove in three runs while going 3 for 3 at the plate and Krupke added two hits to lead Albany. The Comets scored three runs in the first inning and two more in the second before putting the 10-run rule in effect with a five-run third inning.
Albany (1-0) will play at Evansville while New Glarus (0-2) travels to Lake Mills for non-conference games today.
Argyle 3, Belmont 2
BELMONT - Senior Jodi Fischer drilled a two-run home run to snap a scoreless tie in the sixth inning and Kim Pink delivered an RBI single moments later to give the Argyle Orioles a win over the Belmont Braves Thursday.
Freshman Jessica Treuthardt scored the game-winning run on Pink's base hit and pitched a complete game to get the win for the Orioles. Belmont scored two runs in the sixth off Truethardt, but the freshman struck out seven and didn't walk a batter while allowing just four hits.
Fischer, Pink and sophomore Kayla Ostby all went 2 for 3 to lead the Orioles. Argyle will play its conference opener Tuesday at Albany.
