ALBANY - A trio of Albany pitchers combined on a three-hitter in the nightcap of a doubleheader to beat River Ridge 6-3 to salvage a split in the twinbill Friday night.
Albany senior Ty Mauerman went 3-for-3 to lead the Comets. Mauerman picked up the win on the mound. He pitched three innings and gave up three runs on three hits.
Sophomore Mitchell Kauk and senior Cody Schultz combined to throw four innings of shutout relief. Schultz finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
"Ty Mauerman is a senior and we leaned on him on the mound," Albany coach Brandon Bakken said. "We wanted to get some other guys experience. Mitchell Kauk came in and threw outstanding."
Albany (5-4) lost the first game to the Timberwolves 8-2. Schultz pitched four innings and gave up six runs on eight hits. He struck out two and walked two. Freshman Mitchell Trow pitched three innings and gave up two runs on three hits. He struck out one and walked two.
Sophomore Ethan Pfeuti went 3-for-3 to lead the Comets.

BELMONT - Alec Treuthardt and Christopher Severson hit home runs to help fuel Argyle's 21-run outburst in the nightcap of a doubleheader.
Treuthardt went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a triple, and Severson went 2-for-4 with a solo shot. Severson also clubbed a three-run home run in the first game, which the Orioles lost in eight innings.
Kyle Olson and Brock Bruehlman were each 2-for-5 with a double in the second game, when the Orioles (2-9) scored four runs in the second inning and eight more in the third, all with two outs. Kevin Flannery earned the pitching victory in relief.
Severson was 2-for-4 in the opener and Jared Johnson was 2-for-3. The Orioles took the lead in the top of the eighth when Treuthardt got a one-out hit, stole second and third base and scored on Olson's suicide squeeze bunt. But Belmont won the game with a walk-off home run.

MONTICELLO - Monticello's ace struggled in the opener and Cassville's top pitcher fired a five-inning no-hitter in the nightcap as the Comets posted the sweep.
The Comets' Garrett Schauff walked one and recorded eight strikeouts in shutting down the Ponies (3-11) in the second game. He also went 4-for-4 with three doubles and two RBIs.
"He's one of the better pitchers we're going to face this year, that's for sure," Monticello coach Jason Pinnow said.
Ty Kartman hit a three-run home run in the first inning off Monticello's Lucas Marty, who went four innings and allowed nine runs - seven earned - while walking five and one strikeout.
In the opener, Monticello ace Lukas Kolasch went six innings and allowed just three hits while recording seven strikouts. But Kolasch issued 12 walks, and all five runs he allowed were earned.
"The walks killed us - espeically when we outhit them seven to four," Pinnow said.
Cassville built a 5-1 lead through six innings. Kolasch and Aaron Hefty each went 2-for-3, with Kolasch collecting two RBIs and Hefty one.
MINERAL POINT 13, DARLINGTON 3
MINERAL POINT - The Pointers pounded out 16 hits and knocked off the Redbirds in six innings.
Darlington senior Tyler Black pitched five innings and gave up four six runs (four earned) on eight hits.
Mineral Point broke the game open with a seven-run sixth off Jason Singer.
Darlington sophomore Aric Geissbuhler went 2-for-4 with two doubles and freshman Cole McDonald was 2-for-4.
