MONROE - The fifth annual Green County YMCA youth triathlon is around the corner.

Green County YMCA will host the youth triathlon at 8:30 a.m. July 26.

The youth triathlon is open to participants 7-17 years old and children can compete individually or as a team.

"With swimming, biking and running, it's good training for kids," said Chris Sachs, youth triathlon director for the Green County YMCA. "I think if it's the first time they are doing it, just go out and give it a shot. It doesn't matter what your time is. You can go at your own pace."

The 7- to 10-year-olds will swim 100 meters, bike 2 miles and run 0.8 miles. The 11-14 division will swim 200 meters, bike 4.8 miles and run 1.3 miles. The 15- to 17-year-olds will swim 300 meters, bike 6.4 miles and run 1.7 miles.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age, division 7-14 and 15-17. All participants receive a finisher's medal.

There will be refreshments, awards and giveaways following the race, including a TREK 300 bike as the grand prize giveaway.

The registration fee is $30 for individuals and $48 for teams until July 11. After July 11, the registration fee is $35 for individuals and $58 for teams. Registration forms are available at the Green County YMCA or online at www.greencountyymca.org.
