GREEN BAY - Brodhead's Makenna Schooff and Sam Searles each competed in the NFL Play 60 Punt, Pass and Kick on Sunday.
MacKenna, the daughter of Jake and Amy Schooff, is a third-grader at Albrecht Elementary School. Sam, the son of Jeb and Rebecca Searles, is in second grade.
Both won first-round competitions at Gary Larsen field, hosted by the Brodhead Jaycees. They moved on to a sectional competition in Middleton and won again but had to wait to find out if they qualified for the state competition in Green Bay. They advanced and compete Sunday at the Don Hutson Center, the Packers practice facility.
Searles won a state championship in his age division, and Schooff placed second.
After the competition, the participants were announced in front of the capacity crowd at Lambeau Field and remained on the sidelines during the pregame warm-ups and the national anthem with the Packers and Dallas Cowboys players.
The scores from the state competition will be submitted for the national competition. To move on, a participant's scores must be in the top four nationally in their respective age groups.
