Vera Frei, age 86, of rural Argyle, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022 at her home. She was born, April 6, 1936 at home on the Youngblood family farm in Woodford, the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Youngblood) Westgard.  She graduated from Darlington High School in 1954.  Vera married Kenneth Frei in July of 1955.

Vera lived most of her life around the Woodford and Argyle area on the farm that she and Ken bought in 1965.  They later sold the farm to their son, Don and his wife Samantha in 2012.  She was hardworking all of her life her jobs included, Oaktron, Beatrice Cheese, Dorman’s Cheese, and helping do chores on the farm.  She enjoyed raising chickens, and was never too far from her companion, her dog, Stella.  

Vera is survived by her children, Robert Westgard of Monroe, Kenneth (Diane) Frei Jr. of Monroe, Mary Kaiser of Warren, IL, Ron Frei of Argyle, Don (Samantha) Frei of Argyle; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many extended relatives and friends.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Henry and Loudon Westgard; and sisters, Violet and Mary.  

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 12:00 PM at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home.  Pastor Dennis Perger will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
