Theodore “Ted” Abels, age 93, of Monroe passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Ted was born in Rockford, IL on October 7, 1926, the son of John and Stella (Dietmeier) Abels. He graduated from South Wayne High School. Ted and Retta Burington were married on January 18, 1948 at the Monroe United Methodist Church; she preceded him in death on August 19, 2014.

Ted and Retta farmed all their lives, spending over 66 years on the same farm in rural Monroe. They loved their black angus cattle. Ted also enjoyed hunting in Wyoming and the Colorado Rockies. He was a longtime member of Monroe United Methodist Church.

Ted is survived by nieces and nephews; dear friends, Eugene and Carol Weiss. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Retta; and sister, Joyce Abbott.

Due to Covid-19, Graveside Services will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe with Rev. Dr. Don S. Kim officiating; masks and social distancing will be required.
