Rosemary J. Silver, age 90, of Monroe, formerly of Monticello, died Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Aster Assisted Living in Monroe. Rosemary was born on January 8, 1935 in Monroe, the daughter of Martin and Mary (Gavigan) Purcell. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1953 and attended Green County Normal School. She taught rural school in Green County before marrying Artemas J. Silver on September 8, 1956 at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. Rosemary took great pride in making meals and running the household for Silver Farms. She loved her family dearly and always had an open door for all her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. She was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Belleville and more recently St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. Rosemary was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Wisconsin men’s basketball, enjoyed her crocheting group, made many good friends through homemakers, and she and Art always looked forward to traveling with John and Karen Zuber.
She is survived by three children, Mary Jo McCarville of Brodhead, Nancy (Emmet Gorzelitz) Silver of Appleton, Donald (Marlis) Silver of Monticello; nine grandchildren, Erin (Adam) Terrell, Shaun (Seth) Harrison, Ryan McCarville, Allison (Mike) Karon, Mitch Metcalf (Liz), Bridget Metcalf, Andy (Jeannie) Silver, Sarah (Jacob) Story, Amy (Joe) Austin; eleven great grandchildren, Elaina, Annaliese, Declan, Caleb, Nora, Mac, Rory, Nathan, Emma, Henry, Jack; and two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Rupnow and Rita Purcell. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art, on Feb. 26, 2018; son-in-law, Matt McCarville; three brothers, Bernie, Gerry, Bill Purcell; brothers-in-law, Bill and Ray Silver; and sister-in-law, Ann Curran.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Father Chahm Gahng officiating. Visitation will precede the funeral mass on Wednesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. Private family burial will be in Saint James Cemetery, Exeter Township. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Rosemary’s name to the Monticello Fire Dept. First Response or SSM Monroe Hospice. The NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, is assisting the family.
