Robert “Bob” Benson, age 81 of Darlington, WI passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville, WI. He was born May 29, 1939 in Darlington the son of Roland and Minnie (Raad) Benson. Bob was born and raised in Darlington and graduated from Darlington High School. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jeaneen Halvorson on June 14, 1959 at Darlington United Methodist Church in Darlington. Bob began his career as a mechanic at Howery's. He later began working for Goodyear in Freeport, IL where he worked for 30 years until retiring in 2001.
Bob is survived by his grandchildren: Mindy (Steven) Judkins of Darlington and Shawn Benson of Cedar Rapids, IA; a daughter-in-law: Debra Benson of Darlington; and his great-grandchildren: Tyler, Dustin, Chasity, Devan, Patti, Kimlynn, Silas, and Robby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jeaneen who preceded him in death one day prior; one son: Kim Benson; one granddaughter: Adalynn Judkins; four brothers: Ralph, Melvin, Roland, and Frank; and seven sisters: Mary, Helen, Florence, Katherine, Genevieve, LaFern, and Emogine.
Bob was a member of Darlington United Methodist Church in Darlington and the Darlington Antique Club. He enjoyed collecting antiques, working on his tractors and various other machines, and tinkering in his sheds. Bob's personality and love for conversation made him a friend to anyone that had the pleasure to be around him. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, bonus grandchildren; Will, Lizzie and Jaycie Schwartz and the memories they created together. Bob will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A public visitation will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2020 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington). The family will not be present for the visitation. However, they invite friends and family to pay their respects during the allotted time of the visitation. A private family funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Erickson Funeral Home with Rev. Angela Utter of Darlington United Methodist Church officiating.
