BRODHEAD – Richard “Roundy” Flynn, age 75, passed away on October 18, 2021 at Agrace Hospice with family at his side after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. Roundy was born to Tom and Rosemary (Drew) Flynn on February 2, 1946. He attended Albany schools. In 1969, he married Rena Trickel Stoll and they shared 28 years together before she passed. On April 12, 2003 he married Catherine Shelton and they started a new chapter in their lives after she too had lost a beloved spouse of many years.
Roundy spent most of his life in the bar/restaurant business in Albany and Brodhead. He started working with his parents at Flynn’s Tap in Albany and Flynn’s Bar in Brodhead. Roundy went on to buy his own bar/restaurant, Flynn’s Steak House in Brodhead, and built a thriving business with a solid following throughout south central Wisconsin. It was perhaps best known for its “Friday Night Fish Fry”. The bar/restaurant business was a perfect fit for Roundy. He enjoyed being around people and seeing to it that they had fun. He made many long-time, good friends through his business. Roundy had a quiet demeanor, but knew how to have a good time.
Roundy especially enjoyed spending time in the Northwoods pontooning on Petenwell Lake, fishing and deer hunting with family and friends, four-wheeling, and going on road trips to visit friends in the Necedah area.
Roundy was a member of the Brodhead Lion’s Club and the South-Central Wisconsin Tavern League.
Roundy is survived by his wife, Catherine; step children; one step grandson, Charles Shelton; 4 siblings, Dan (LaVon) Flynn, Rosalie Clark (Mac), Mike Flynn and Annie (Tom) Richmond and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and other relatives and friends.
Roundy was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Rena in 1997 and two brothers, Patrick and Tommy Flynn.
Funeral services will be held at the DL Newcomer Funeral Home, 1105 E. 9th Avenue in Brodhead on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 1:00 PM. A visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of services. Burial will conclude at the Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials can be directed to the family in Roundy’s memory.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Cates and the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and Agrace Hospice, Fitchburg, for their compassionate care during Richard’s final days.
“We will always carry your memory in our hearts, Roundy”
