Maryellen W. Sullivan, 95, of Monroe, died Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. Maryellen was born on August 28, 1927 in Monroe, the daughter of Harry and Whilma (Geigel) Prien. She attended Greenbush Rural School, graduated from Monroe High School in 1944, and Green County Normal School in 1946. Maryellen taught at West Clarno and Dividing Ridge country schools for four years. She was united in marriage to Roger T. Sullivan on August 15, 1948 at the E.U.B. Church in Monroe. The couple farmed in Sylvester Township for many years. Maryellen spent many hours on “her” tractor and helping with barn chores. She loved her John Deere lawn tractor which she used to mow the grass until age 91.
She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, Monroe Moose Lodge member for over 50 years, and homemakers club. Maryellen and Roger loved their travels to all fifty states and six different continents. She especially enjoyed their three trips to Alaska. She was an avid reader, bowler, enjoyed playing cards with friends, and Saturday breakfasts with the Juda gang. Her most cherished memories were time spent with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always looked forward to their ball games, programs, and concerts.
Maryellen is survived by her a daughter, Kathleen (Steve) Chenous of Argyle; a son, Thomas (Janice) Sullivan of Juda; four grandchildren, Kelly (Nate) Frisch of Mt. Horeb, Jamie (Andrew Pingry) Sullivan of Sun Prairie, Derek (Kendra) Sullivan of Juda, Andy (Johanna) Chenous of Argyle; eleven great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Beverly (Willis) Marty of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger, on August 21, 2014; grandson, Brad Chenous, in 2012; and her brother, Norman, in 1941.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Cal Schaver officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
