Mary Jo Alger, the daughter of Roger and Nancy Schumacher, passed away peacefully with her family around her, on November 18, 2020, at age 58, after a long and incredibly valiant fight with breast cancer. She was born in Monroe, WI on May 26, 1962. She grew up in Janesville, attended Craig High School (Class of 1980), and earned a BA in psychology from UW Whitewater, where she also met her husband of 35 years, Chris Alger.

Mary became a staple of the Janesville community as the owner of The Real Cheese Place from 1997-2018.

She is survived by husband, Chris; children, Ryan (Carissa Beckwith) Alger and Christina Alger; parents, Nancy and Roger Schumacher; sister, Jackie (Jerry) Liberko; brother, Joe (Michelle Vanfleet) Schumacher; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday October 2, 2021 at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Calvary.
