Margrit Heidi Erickson, age 84 passed away peacefully in Madison, Wisconsin on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. She was born on March 15, 1940, in Olten, Switzerland, the daughter of Anton and Heidi (Klaus) Probst. Margrit immigrated to the United States in 1962 and proudly became a U.S. citizen on May 13, 1968. She married Frederick “Swede” Erickson, on April 16, 1971, at the Swiss Church in New Glarus. Margrit worked as an administrative assistant in Switzerland before moving to the U.S., where she became a bookkeeper. She spent over 20 years working for Roberts Drug Store until her retirement in 2005. She was a member of the Wilhelm Tell Guild, where she co-directed the German version of the play and managed the wardrobe for many years. Margrit had moved from New Glarus to live with her son and family, and one of her greatest joys was welcoming her grandsons’ home from school each day. Margrit’s warmth, dedication, and unwavering love for her family and heritage will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
She is survived by her son Thomas (Diana) Kuhne, grandsons, Cole and Owen Kuhne, brother, Toni (Evy) Probst of Switzerland, and niece Janine (Mattia Codiroli) Probst.
She was preceded in death by her husband Swede Erickson and her parents Anton & Heidi Probst (Klaus).
A private inurnment service will be held at the New Glarus Cemetery.
A public celebration of Margrit’s life will be held at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Wilhelm Tell Guild.
