Lydia (Wels) West
Lydia (Wels) West

It is with deep sadness that the family of Lydia (Wels) West announces her passing on December 24, 2020. Lydia was born January 30, 1933 to Joe and Sophie Wels in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. A 1951 graduate of Monroe High School, she attended and completed general education classes at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a beloved wife to Fred West for over 65 years, and made a loving home for he and their children in Toronto, Canada.

Surviving Lydia are her husband, children; Mary Kay (Michael) Cerovich, Julia (Alan) Robinson, Colleen (Dennis) Flatman, Paul (Heather) and Amy.

She was a devoted grandmother to Caitlyn (Chris), James, Rebecca, Casper, Emma, Jackson, Morgan, Nicholas, Nathaniel and Isabella, and great-grandmother to George and Fredrick.

She is also survived by sister-in-law Luana Wels, Monroe, and many loved nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents, brothers, Joseph (Joe) and Norbert, and sister Erika.

Throughout her life she was committed to her husband, family, faith and community. Her loving heart, extraordinary compassion and wonderful sense of humor were reflected in everything she did; whether it was singing in the Blessed Trinity choir, being a Brownie leader, tennis association executive member, part of the parent committees at her children’s schools or welcoming new parishioners and neighbors, to name just a few. She was a wonderful ray of light who lit up every room she walked into, making everyone she came in contact with feel brighter for having been with her. Lydia leaves countless wonderful memories and stories. We are all blessed to have known her and to be loved by her. We will miss her deeply and remember her always.

A memorial mass and internment will be held at a future date. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association or a charity of your choice in Lydia’s name.
