LaVon K. (Arnsmeier) Cowell, age 81, of Monroe, died Thursday, May 30, 2024 at her home. LaVon was born on August 10, 1942 in Monroe, the daughter of Rodney and Lucille (Kloepping) Arnsmeier. She was a 1960 graduate of Brodhead High School and married Roger D. Cowell on August 11, 1961 in Juda. LaVon was employed at Oaktron Industries for several years and worked as an Executive Secretary for the chief and captain at the Monroe Police Department from 1970 until retiring in 1998. LaVon was a long time member and officer at the Monroe Moose Lodge #754 where she worked in the office alongside Bob Rufer for 13 years. She enjoyed crocheting and sending weekly cards and letters to family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Barb Gerber; a son, Blake Cowell, both of Monroe; her grandson, Ross Jacobson of Oshkosh; sister, Judy Klopfenstein of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, William “Bill” Cowell; three brothers, Lowell, Ron, Duane Arnsmeier; and Roger Cowell.
A celebration of LaVon’s life will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Monroe Moose Lodge. There will be a Women of the Moose service beginning at 12:30 p.m. Private inurnment of her ashes will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Memorials are suggested in LaVon’s name to the Monroe Moose Lodge. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
