Kent Phillips, age 81, of Hudson, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning August 20, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Kent was born July 26, 1943 in Monroe, Wisconsin to Marian and LeRoy Phillips. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1961 and the University of Wisconsin—Whitewater in 1966. Kent was united in marriage with Janice Van Matre on September 4, 1965. They were blessed with two daughters, Linda and Laura.
Kent started his career as a systems analyst and materials manager at Trane Company in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, which took his family to Salt Lake City, Utah and Clarksville, Tennessee. Later, Kent worked at other manufacturing plants as Director of Customer Service. He retired from Dunwoody Institute where he was Director of Corporate Training. In addition, Kent and his family owned and operated Specialty Meats and Gourmet in Hudson for several years.
Kent enjoyed many summer adventures aboard his boat, the Mystic, at the St. Croix Marina. Special family memories were made up and down the shores of the St. Croix River! He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed cabin life. He often piled the family into his car and went for “drives”; always looking for new adventures and beautiful scenery. When asked where they were going, Kent often replied, “Just up the road a ways” or “Over the next hill.” He always knew there was something exciting waiting for him!
Sharing in the excitement was always a dog or two by his side. The love he gave and received from his animals was unmatched, except for that for his family. He showed unconditional love to his daughters and grandsons; sharing advice and giving generous support at every opportunity.
Kent will be remembered by all who knew him for his light-hearted jokes and storytelling as well as his ability to listen with an open heart and mind.
Kent is survived by his wife Jan; his children Linda Janse and Laura (Matt) Welage; grandsons John Loppnow, Nathan Loppnow, and Nicholas Janse.
Visitation will be from 10-11 AM with an 11 AM Memorial Service on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at O’Connell Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th Street Hudson, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital are preferred.
