Joseph Walter Tuescher
Joseph Walter Tuescher

Joseph Walter Tuescher, age 73, of Monroe formerly of South Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at The Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born the son of Walter and Margaret (Schlappi) Tuescher on September 26, 1946. He married Mary Ellen Vickers in October of 1964, together they had two children. He was later united in marriage to Pamela Lynn Scott on March 23, 2010 in Darlington. Joe and Pam owned a farm near South Wayne where they had beef cattle, goats, and his dog, Maddie.

Joe was born in Monroe but grew up in South Wayne which he reported “was great”. Joe was Swiss and comes from a family of Swiss cheesemakers, which he felt was an artform, not everyone can do it and doing so was special to him. He was a 1964 graduate of South Wayne High School. He worked as a cheesemaker for 30 years at Valley View Cheese Co-op, he also later worked for Double G Concrete and he retired from Chula Vista Cheese Co. in 2000. Joe enjoyed working hard, the people he worked with, and making Swiss cheese.

In his younger years he was a boxer, played basketball, football, softball, and Swiss wrestling; he had many trophies of which he was proud of. He also sang at weddings and loved fishing and hunting. His favorite things were getting together with family for aged Swiss fondue, and watching the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers with friends.

He loved being with his family and friends, and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was never judgmental and just accepted people as they were. He lived fast, played hard, and didn’t always follow by the rules. Joe was always positive about life even during his most trying times, and his faith in God never wavered.

Joe is survived by his wife, Pam of South Wayne; children, Laura (David) Herr of Overland Park, KS and Tony Tuescher of Gratiot; grandchildren, Maggie and Jacob Herr and Haley, Jace, and Gabe Tuescher; siblings, Robert (Mary Jane) Tuescher of Monroe, Sue (Lyle) Samson of Monroe, Mary Jo (Roger) Reents of Nekoosa, David (Diane) Tuescher of Clinton, IA, Karen (Mike) Schlichting of Lena, IL; sister-in-law, Nancy (Kenneth) Johnson of Wiota; brothers-in-law, Mark Scott of Platteville and Eric Strothman of Wiota; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Vernon and Mary Ellen Scott; and sister-in-law, Rhonda Strothman.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7PM on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home with Monsignor Larry Bakke as celebrant. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 PM until the time of service, at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a warm Thank You to all of the nursing and support staff at the Monroe Health Services and fellow residents for their care and compassion during Joe’s stay there.
