Joseph Robert “Bobby” Ohnstad, age 82 of rural Darlington, WI passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 26, 2021 at his home in rural Darlington. He was born February 9, 1939 the son of Joseph and Edna (Peterson) Ohnstad. Bobby grew up in Darlington where he graduated from Darlington High School in 1957. Shortly after graduation, Bobby was drafted into the United States Armed Forces where he served for 2 years in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, Bobby moved to Beloit, WI where he worked at the Beloit Corporation as a machinist until his retirement at which time he moved back to Darlington.
Bobby is survived by his brother: David (Sharan) Ohnstad; three sisters: Shirley Donahue, Carol (Norman) Hanson and Karen Govier; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law: John Donahue and Greg Govier; and one nephew: Jeffrey Donahue.
Bobby was a proud member of Bates-O’Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 of Darlington. He loved watching and cheering on the Green Bay Packers and listening to polka music. He was proud of each of his nieces and nephews and made sure they all knew how proud he was of them. Bobby was a proud environmentalist and was known by his family as an “encyclopedia” of history of Darlington residents.
Bobby spent his time helping his brother Dave at Ohnstad Power Equipment where he thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the customers. He always knew how to make someone smile. Bobby will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
