POTOSI – Joseph L. "Joe" McCarthy, age 48, Potosi, passed away Monday, August 5, 2019, at the Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster from complications of childhood injuries. He was born September 19, 1970, in Rockford, IL. Joe graduated in 1991 from Monroe Senior High School in Monroe. He was a part of the Southwest Opportunities Center, Inc. family of Lancaster for 27 years. Joseph will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his love for his family. 

 He is survived by his parents: Laura and Paul Hartman, Potosi; brothers, Robert (Angela) McCarthy, Cassville; Paul Hartman, Potosi; sisters, Tara (Darin) Fortney, Lancaster and Jessica (Caleb) Wright, Potosi; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

 He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Ava J. Powers and Robert C. Smythe and his paternal grandparents: Clarence and Ella McCarthy. 

A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at 1:00 pm at the Hartman family farm, 6987 Reynolds Ridge Rd., Potosi. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be given in Joe's name to the Southwest Opportunities Center, Inc, 1600 Industrial Park Road, P.O. Box 207
