John A. Meier, age 68 of Juda, WI passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3rd, 2019 at UW Hospital in Madison, WI after a courageous battle with cancer.
John was born on April 30, 1951 in Monroe, the son of Alfred & Mildred Jean Meier. He graduated from Juda High School in 1970.
John married the love of his life Ursula Schulthess on September 4th, 1971. He farmed in Juda his entire life where he and Ursula raised their three sons. In addition to John’s passion for farming and taking great pride in his crops, he also enjoyed traveling with his wife, working in the shop with his sons and grandsons, attending his grandson’s events, going to hay sales, snowmobiling, and tractor pulling. John began tractor pulling in the early 1970’s. The love of the sport was passed down to his sons which became a family passion. John made lifelong friendships in pulling and considered them a part of his extended family.
John was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Badger State Tractor Pullers, and Stateline Trailblazers Snowmobile Club. He also served on the Jefferson Township Board from 1998-2003.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ursula; three sons, Mike (Brandi), Dan (Kathi), John Jr. (Amy); three grandsons, Trevor, Cole, and Lane; siblings, Kathy (Len) Cederholm, Duane (Jeanne) Meier, Cindy (Dave) Haberman, Keith (Julie) Meier; stepmother, Darlene Gill-Meier; step-siblings, Gary (Karen) Gill, Collen (Steve) Hartwig, and Lonnie (Judy) Gill; sisters-in-law, Sybil (Doug) Traverso and Candie Schulthess; and brother-in-law, Harvey (Patty) Kubly. He is further survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Christine Kubly; and brother-in-law, Jakob Schulthess..
A visitation for John will be Sunday, October 6th from 2-6PM at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Dr, Monroe WI.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 7th at 11AM at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1724 14th St Monroe, WI with Rev. Todd Hackman officiating. Burial services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe, WI. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.

John was otherwise known as Papa John, Johnny, Big John and Uncle Jesse. He was always a man with a plan and will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit and deep love for his family.
