John C. Gierhart, age 78 of Indianapolis, IN formerly of Argyle, WI passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022 at home. He was born August 13, 1944 in Argyle the son of Harlow and Leila (U’Ren) Gierhart. John grew up and lived in Lafayette County his entire life and graduated from Argyle High School in 1963 and went on to receive a Jet Engine Mechanics Degree in the US Air Force where he served for almost 7 years. He received an Air Force Commendation Medal after serving in Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline A. Mason on October 1, 1970 at the Argyle Lutheran Church in Argyle.

John worked in mechanics all his life and remained an active member in the Argyle community and proudly served on the Argyle Lutheran Church Council, the Argyle Village Board, and was a past President of the Argyle American Legion, and the Argyle Volunteer Fire Department until he retired on March 22, 1992 from Argyle Public Schools due to failing health.

John was a member of Argyle Methodist Church and later joined the Argyle Lutheran Church when he got married. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

John is survived by his wife Jacqueline at home; their children: April M. (Yolenda) Van Duen of Indianapolis, John J. (Cornelia) Gierhart of Indianapolis, and Matt J. (Erin) Gierhart of Dallas, TX; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one brother: Harlow U. (Audrey) Gierhart of Mauston, WI; two sisters: Jessie (Elton) Fransen of Loves Park, IL and Cindy (Bill) Strump of Wausau, WI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Roger L. (Ruth) Gierhart; and one sister: Barbara (Bill) Nodolf.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Argyle Lutheran Church (100 East St., Argyle) with Rev. Daniel L. Bohlman officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday, November 18, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (801 Milwaukee St. Argyle) and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the Argyle Lutheran Church.
