Jan E. Hay, age 71, of New Glarus passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Agrace Hospice Home in Fitchburg. She was born the daughter of Paul and Elizabeth (Bussman) Dubach on November 13, 1951, in Monroe. She graduated from Warren High School and received her nursing degree from Highland Community College. On February 10, 1973, Jan was united in marriage to John Hay, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She was a member of St. Victor’s Catholic Church.
As a nurse, she dedicated 25 years to the Monroe Hospital and then worked at the Madison Surgery Center for 6 years, retiring in 2017. She was a compassionate and dedicated nurse who never met a patient she didn't love.
Jan enjoyed sports and the outdoors. She played softball, volleyball, and curled when she was younger. She loved spending time at Apple Canyon Lake, boating and waterskiing. She loved playing Euchre and Nutsie, reading the Chicago Tribune from cover to cover (including the crossword puzzle), and traveling. Her adventures took her to many different countries and destinations in the States. She loved all things pop culture and the latest trends, and would make sure everyone else was up to date as well. She loved spotting all creatures great and small. She had a beautiful backyard and pond for watching deer, foxes, birds, and her koi fish.
Most of her adventures included her loving husband of 50 years - traveling, camping and going on many rides on their Harley Davidson. Jan was a loving mother to her only child, Stephanie. She encouraged Stephanie to do and be the best person she could be.
Jan is survived by her husband John, daughter, Stephanie (Jeff) Tuhro of St. Louis, MO, and siblings, Gwen (Gary) Hay of Verona, Anne (Jon) Wallace of Oregon, and Rob Dubach of Monroe. She was a doting aunt to her nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Paul Dubach.
Jan was charismatic, adventurous, brave, and incredibly strong. She added such joy to people's lives, and she will always live on in our hearts. Schlafen sie gut.
