James S. Huffman, age 80 of Monroe, died Friday February 3, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. He was born on August 8, 1942 in Monroe, the son of Herbert and Mildred (Olson) Huffman. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1960 and U.W. Platteville in 1964 with a degree in Agriculture. James married Anita M. McKenzie on August 9, 1964 in Blanchardville. Jim was a Dairy Farmer his entire life, and the 4th generation on the family farm.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Alpine Curling Club- where he was active for over 50 years, National Historic Cheesemaking Center, Green County Farm Bureau, and Wisconsin and National Holstein Associations. He helped out with 4-H, F.F.A. and judging Dairy cattle. Jim coached the Green County 4-H Dairy judging team, which won the 1973 National contest; they also went to the International competition in Europe in1974. In his later years he thoroughly enjoyed conducting tours at the National Historic Cheese Making Center. His love of farming extended to hosting families and international visitors during the World Dairy Expo and Monroe Cheese Days.

He is survived by his wife Anita of Monroe; children: Garrett Huffman of Madison, Heather (Mark Olson) Huffman of Sun Prairie, and Valerie Nestle of Greenfield, WI; granddaughter, Charlotte; sister, Jane (Philip) Peterson of Grand Blanc, MI; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

 Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 10, 2023 at Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor John Tabaka officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Hawthorne cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home. Memorials can be given in James’s name to either Grace Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Association.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at SSM Health Monroe, St Mary's Hospital Madison, and Evansville Manor for all their care and kindness over the last few months.
