Homer Earl “Fudd” Pickett, age 82, of South Wayne passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Homer was born March 19, 1937 in Woodford, the son of Bernard and Margaret (Mahlkuch) Pickett. He was one of 11 children. Homer attended the Woodford School for 8 years, and then attended South Wayne High School for 4 years. He was united in marriage to Carol Hanson on October 27, 1956 at the Yellowstone Lutheran Church; they have been married for 62 and half years.

He was in business for 34 years in South Wayne as a Surge Dairy Equipment dealer. He was also very active in the community as a School Board member, Fire Department member, South Wayne Village Trustee, Secretary for 47 years at the Black Hawk Sportsman Club. He was also very active at the Black Hawk Memorial Park in Woodford for many years. Homer was on the “chain-gang” for the football games in South Wayne for 49 years. He was an avid Black Hawk sports fan. He loved fishing, bowling, fast-pitch softball, trap shooting, and playing cards with the family. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Friends will miss his sense of humor and all the jokes he used to tell.

Homer is survived by his wife, Carol of South Wayne; four children, Terry (Mary Lou) Pickett of South Wayne, LuAnn (Larry) Hutson of Sparta, Daniel (Melanie) Pickett and Larry Pickett both of South Wayne. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved and enjoyed spending time with. He is further survived by his siblings, Ruby Phillips of Monroe, Stanley Pickett of New Glarus, Delores (Alan) Hixson of Couderay, Karen Nyman of Brodhead, Gary (Joan) Pickett of Browntown, Joan (Robert) Lovelace of Woodford, and Janet (Mike) Minder of Browntown; and sisters-in-law, Carol and Phyllis Pickett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Dean, Glenn, and Franklin Pickett.

Memorial Services will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday, June 28, 2019 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Dr. and N. 18th Ave in Monroe, with Pastor Dan Bohlman officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, from 2:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Homer’s wishes. Burial will take place at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Homer’s name.
